In a few days, I am going to start a brand new PDAgold.com version with regular updates (including the most comprehensive device reviews) and many other improvements. Since English is not my native language, I'd like to ask someone for help with grammar and some other language stuff. If you think you could help me, please send me a message to p@vel.cz. Your help will be very appreciated! Pavel Koza

April 20, 2004 :: Are you consumed with time constraints or need to know when the next event in your life is going to take place? Timekeeper can help remind you of your next meeting, let you know how long you have until dinner will be ready, or how long it takes to run around the track. Timekeeper is a multi-function multi-stopwatch utility for the Pocket PC. It comes with numerous theme skins and different alarm tones that can be customized to your liking.

Installation

Timekeeper is easily installed onto your Pocket PC through its downloadable executable file. The file is 1.76 Mb in size.

The complete operations manual can be downloaded or printed from the Conduits site and gives an excellent overview of all the features of the program.

The timers have four modes.

  • Up – the timer counts up from zero.
  • Down – the timer counts down from a preset time to zero.
  • Down, then up – the timer counts down from a preset time, and then starts counting up.
  • Down, then loop – the timer counts down from a preset time, then resets to the preset time and starts counting down again.

The alarm sounds on all timers when zero is reached. The alarm sound is selectable from a list of sounds included in the program. More sounds can be loaded into the program files.

To set the start time there are two options, either choose a pre-designated time from the dropdown list or manually set a unique time by touching the time display and select the digit from the digit pop-up box. Each timer displayed has a title, this title can be changed by touching the title and inserting your own title. The action buttons on your Pocket PC can be programmed to reset most of the functions available in Timekeeper.

Operations

Some of the skins available with Timekeeper have distinct purposes. The default timer shows 4 individual timers. The kitchen timer allows you time such breakfast items as eggs, while the dinner option shows time for pasta and rice. The chess timer substitutes for the wooden clock seen at chess matches. Need to time 20 things at once? No problem, a 20 timer screen is available. Managing 20 individual timers is another operation all together. The timers can be set to unique times, all of which can be added to the preset times pop-up list. The alarm feature will wake up your Pocket PC to sound the alarm if your PPC is off .

Basic Facts

Conclusion

The program is a handy utility for timing various activities in one’s daily life. I found it useful when using it as a reminder of upcoming events during the day. While the lap timer is useful, I can’t see anyone running laps with their Pocket PC on their person. I would have liked the alarm to keep sounding until acknowledged or at least sound more than once. The multiple skin options add to the variety of the program. The ability to add more skins and sounds makes Timekeeper a definite keeper. :: The final rating is 80%
