>Slimy Snails Are Fun Again!
Snails comes packaged in a 3.8 MB installation file. Seeing the size of the installation file made me wonder how long it will take to load the game on my iPaq. I can assure you, it loads lightning fast! My mouth fell wide open when the Snails menu showed up in less than a second! :)
Starting a mission (or deathmatch) doesn't take that long either. I only needed to wait less than 8 seconds (which varies with level and number of snails) for a mission to load.
Brings Out The Kid In You
Snails is a very fun game. Its got lots of fun animations and sounds plus a healthy dose of jokes. I guess that the game was inspired by the PC game Worms, however Snails is not really a Worms-clone as the games are very different. The teams that you can choose in-between are the Moogums, Lupeez and Nooginz, and unlike in Worms you cannot change the names of these teams. The levels are not randomly generated as on Worms but are ready made.
To get all the weapons you'll have to play through all of the Snail missions. That is quite ingenious since you then learn how to play the game (and some tactics too!).
The graphics in Snails are great! The whole game has a cartoon-feel to it and some fun sound effects that go with it. The background of the game is animated to show the direction of the wind and it blows without any problems. The characters are also animated and are funny to watch.
The music and sound effects are also great. I did not notice any performance improvements or worsening when turning all sounds on and off. The music is always playing no matter if it's loading a game or not. When I started playing this game, I couldn't stop. My iPaq battery went from full to empty and I still couldn't stop. I personally recommend that you buy an additional battery (pack) for this game: Snails can be very addictive...
Easy To Play
Worrying about how easy the game is? Don't worry, it's easy. I had not read any manual (or documentation) when I started the game for the first time and it was easy. In general, if you can use the calendar on your PPC then you can play this game. For example, when aiming you can use the stylus or the joypad. Or, when moving you can tap beside your character (to move it left or right), tap the on-screen buttons or use the joypad.
The game is run in landscape (unlike portrait which normal programs use) and you can choose if you would like to turn the screen around for left hand use. This for better playability and viewability and it works well.
