Piel Frama Case for Acer N300 Review
When I first opened the package with the new AcerN300, I was surprised that it does not contain any protective case. Instead of the usual turndown rectangle made of hard artificial leather with sides of elastic textile, sort of a “sock”, or better a pouch, which is definitely not able to prevent the display denting when the PDA is carried in the pocket or in a bag, peered at me. Therefore it is necessary to look about for a different solution.
If you are longing for something special, you should not miss the case made by a Spanish company Piel Frama, which occupies itself with the manufacture of cases for different “mobilities” from the PDA to the tablet PC. I hope that few of my observations will ease your decision making.
Already during unpacking of the product, you will note certain odour of luxury. You do not have to look for scissors to slash plastic blister sheeting. An elegant bicolour packet with the manufacturer’s logo inlaid with paper lining is waiting for you.
When purchasing this case, you can choose from several types of leather, my piece is made of soft ostrich leather in natural colours, which appears very interestingly and exotically.
The fabrication of the case is very solid, the part covering the LCD in the event that the case is closed is inflexible, and therefore it is not possible to dent the display even with high pressure. The case is equipped with two-piece clip for attachment to a belt. The part, which is screwed to the case by a (metal) thread, is metallic with leather colouring. The part designed for attachment to a belt is plastic and abides with the case colouring as well. When attached to a belt, the mechanism fits together precisely, so it cannot happen that the expensive device will unfasten spontaneously and will consequently fall. It is perfect that the inter-connecting mechanism has sufficient space for a sway, even rotation is possible. You would appreciate this when boarding a car for example. If you do not favour wearing your PDA on the belt, it is possible to unscrew the metal plug from the case and to fill the opening with a neat blind flange.
Access to all control elements of the PDA is secured by precisely situated cut-outs, even the reset opening or a headphone outlet is not missed. The speaker opening is covered by a sewn-in screen. Connection of the charging connector is trouble-free as well.
At the inner side of the upper part of the case, there is a storage space for banknotes, two credit cards and two memory cards in SD/MMC format.
The general impression of the case’s fabrication is very good, I have not found a crooked stitch. After more than one week of using, you cannot see any scratches or loose threads. No idea occurs to me about what is the product is missing or what could have been improved.
The used leather is very soft. Plastic (and typical for this kind of material) “ostrich” nipples on the surface look excellently.
This case costs 90 Euro including transport. The price is slightly higher, but here you evidently pay for handwork and an exclusive material.
If I should evaluate this case after a week of using, I would certainly commend the interesting above-average design, a clever solution of removable belt clip and last but not least, very quality and luxurious design as well. If I should reprehend something, then perhaps the very high price for my fellow countrymen, which will surely discourage a part of the persons interested. However, quality costs something...:)
