Camera shootout: Touch Diamond2 vs. Touch HD vs. Touch Diamond

Here is another side-by-side comparison of photo-enabled pocket devices, this time three models of the same make, HTC. While the brand new HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch HD boast 5-Mpix sensors, the original HTC Touch Diamond features a 3-Mpix chip. HTC has been fitting its devices with increasingly better cameras. While images from the first Diamond can be described as “satisfactory” at best, the new Touch HD and Touch Diamond2 will satisfy even a discerning user.

Despite, there is quite a room for improvement. Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of all three devices is the lack of a flash. Shooting in low light in general is their weakness. A powerful LED or preferably a xenon flash would be strongly desirable for such a capable camera.

Each set of photos is taken at the same moment (in one man, it had to be done one after another, obviously:) and in the same way (hand-held or with support). This is not specified but is not significant for the comparison. The devices were set to full auto. It is likely that better results could have been achieved in some situations e.g. with manual white balance but I am going to discuss such features in an upcoming in-depth review.

That's all. I may add a few more image sets in the coming days but I think these are sufficient to demonstrate the capabilities of the cameras.
